B ASINGSTOKE comedienne Jan Jack looks set to
burst onto the London comedy scene with her up-coming appearances in Richmond and Crouch End later this month.
Jan’s unique brand of come- dy features her alter ego “Nessie”- a very prim and proper 65 year old, who, after a few seconds to warm up, will reveal a very dirty mind. Jan claims Nessie is purely fictional: “I haven’t done half the things she’s done. Honest. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it”.
Jan’s first foray in the world of comedy began over two years ago when she began writing her book “Paperclips and Petulance”, which she has just completed.
Last year she attended a weekend comedy writing course, and after reading

some of her poetry to her tutor, he told her that her work needed to be per-formed and immediately booked her a stand up slot in London.
Jan’s comedy has proved to be a hit in her work place, and after writing an article for the company magazine, she has been asked to write more and more. Jan also is able to write a poem for any occasion, and has written several bespoke poems for weddings and birthdays. Jan test-drives her material on her colleagues before it hits the stage.
Although for the moment Jan will keep her day job, she said she that if the opportunity arose she would love to give up it up and take up comedy full time. Jan classifies her comedy

as Very Smutty”, and it comes with an 18 certificate. However, she is not openly rude and instead uses double entendres and euphemisms:
“You let the audience fill in the gaps, and build pictures in their minds- which is almost always more naughty than any words you can use”.
Alistair, Jan’s husband often accompanies her to her gigs, but she is keen to point out that any reference to him in her show is not a reflection of real life:
“Some of the audience ask if my material is based on our marriage, but he’s a good sport and doesn’t mind too much”.
Hopefully Jan’s unique talent of comedy writing and stand up shows will point her in the right direction to becoming a comedic star.
