When I was a Girl
These days are now so very different
life passes us by in a whirl
we’re all in a hurry, life’s one massive flurry
it was easy when I was a girl
We lived in a house in North Clapham
the privy was out in the yard
down I would flop and my knickers would drop
while someone outside stood on guard
We’d use torn off scraps of a newspaper
not that soft stuff that’s on sale today
its limp, it just lingers, it goes through my fingers
its not a good start to the day
And whats all this daft ensuite rubbish
Its nonsense it has to be said
When I wanted a wee I crawled round on my knees
pulled a pot out from under the bed
We’d all use it from Monday to Friday
to empty it out was a chore
it soon used to fill and the contents might spill
through the cracks in that old bedroom floor
And old habits don’t die very quickly
they’re fully ingrained I confess
I’m off for a poo, can you hand me page 2
of The Sun, or the Daily Express?
